The Elephant Man
This amazing play written by Bernard Pomerance is based on the brief life of John Merrick who was born terribly deformed and was shunned by modern society when abandoned as a child. He survives as a freak show attraction until he is rescued from his heart wrenching life by a young doctor. Merrick aspires to be like any other man, becoming a favourite of the aristocracy and literati though unfortunately his dreams are tragically never realised.
The Elephant Man recieved critical acclaim back in 1979 on Broadway and can still boast a powerful and contermporary production today.
