It is based on the true story of the Von Trapp family and their struggle against Nazi rule. Maria Rainer is a nun sent from the convent to act as a nanny for George Von Trapp's 7 children! As a widower Captain Von Trapp sees the children as a nuisance and they're only to serve as a haunting reminder of his late wife.  Maria brings music into the house, lifting spirits. Maria eventually falls in love with and marryies Capt. Von Trapp! However the 1938 Anschluss of Austria occurs and Nazi rule takes control of the country demanding that Captain Von Trapp take position in the German Navy.
